Well, depends on what you eat

Will Eating Late at Night Make You Fat?

Not enough to just detox

Yes, some people would think detoxifying means losing weight. Although it may help but that is not the end all and be all of losing weight. Listen up ladies. And it is not enough that we depend on these things other then exercising. NOT ENOUGH.

Debunking Detox Diet Myths

Although the word is defined as “removing toxic substances or qualities,” “detox” in the Detox Diet context is seen more as weight loss than transforming from unhealthy to healthy. Before you even consider embarking on the next detox fad, consider these Detox Diet myths:

Calamansi=Lime

So glad to be seeing this article today. I have just recently posted about Calamansi and what I do with it for my health and wellness. Calamansi is the Filipino version of lime.

eat to get rid of cellulite

I wish it says here how much ginger would I be consuming by the time I got rid of my cellulite.

Top 10 cellulite-busting foods

Cellulite-busting food 1: Berries

To help keep skin firm and taut and disguise the appearance of cellulite, try adding somevitamin C to your diet to help boost your skin's collagen levels. Berries are a particularly good source of vitamin C, as well as being extremely high in the antioxidants necessary for fighting toxic waste, which can slow down the lymphatic system and accumulate in cellulite-prone areas.

Cellulite-busting food 2: Asparagus

Asparagus is another food with circulation-boosting properties. On top of this, asparagus is a great stress reliever due to its abundance of folic acid, which can help to stabilise a stressful mood. As prolonged levels of stress can increase fat storage on the body, adding foods such as asparagus to your diet can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite-busting food 3: Avocados

While anyone fat, thin, young or old can suffer from cellulite, ageing does tend to increase the visibility of cellulite due to the loss of elasticity and thinning of skin. Therefore, try eating foods rich in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) which can help to strengthen skin and keep it supple and elastic. Avocados are a particularly rich source of EFAs, as well as being high in many essential nutrients.

Cellulite-busting food 4: Oily fish

Another top food for keeping the skin in good condition is oily fish, which is high in skin-strengthening omega-3 fatty acids. As an added bonus, the fatty acids present in oily fish are also good for reducing inflammation and boosting the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, making them a good choice for keeping cellulite at bay.

Cellulite-busting food 5: Dark, leafy greens

Dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale are rich in an antioxidant called lutein, which research has shown is good for helping the skin to retain its moisture and elasticity and increase its lipid levels - all good news for those suffering from cellulite. On top of this, leafy greens are nutrient-rich and are good for the circulation and detoxification.

Cellulite-busting food 6: Ginger

One cause of cellulite is poor circulation, so eating foods such as ginger that boost blood flow can help to improve its appearance. As well as being good for circulation, ginger is also good fordetoxification and strengthening the lymphatic system, which can help with the circulation of lymph fluid and toxins that can accumulate in fat pockets under the skin, contributing to the bumpy appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite-busting food 7: Cranberry juice

A sluggish lymphatic system is one of the primary causes of cellulite, so those wishing to reduce its appearance should try boosting their intake of cranberry juice, which is noted for its abilities tocleanse the lymph system. This powerful juice helps to emulsify stubborn fat deposits in the lymphatic system so that they are more easily flushed out the system.

Cellulite-busting food 8: Bananas

Bananas are a rich source of potassium, which is helpful for reducing cellulite in many ways. Firstly, potassium helps to reduce water retention which can be a leading cause of cellulite. Furthermore, potassium can help to support the lymphatic system and ensure it works efficiently at circulating fluid and cleansing the body of impurities.

Cellulite-busting food 9: Whole grains

Whole grains are packed with fibre, which is an essential for keeping your body running smoothly. Fibre helps speed up the process of detoxification and clear out waste products that can build up in your system, often leading to cellulite. Eating whole grains also helps to keep the heart healthy and boost circulation to cellulite-prone areas.

Cellulite-busting food 10: Papaya

Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables is one of the best ways to detox the body and reduce the appearance of cellulite, and papaya is a particularly good choice of fruit. Papaya is not only rich in potassium - one of the most important nutrients when it comes to battling cellulite - but it is also high in antioxidant beta-carotene, which can help prevent damage to body tissueRead more on realbuzz.com...

The Vitamin Alphabet

A quick guide to the vitamins we need

(many thanks to this source: http://ph.she.yahoo.com/the-vitamin-alphabet-012430505.html)

Vitamins play an important role in maintaining our health. Let’s discover the numerous health benefits provided by these vitamins!

Vitamins and their functions

The most common vitamins that we hear about are the vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K. While vitamin B and C are water soluble (are not stored in the body and must be replaced every day), the rest are water insoluble.

Vitamin A for better vision

Vitamin A is important for maintaining healthy eyesight and is also useful in treating night blindness, which is caused due to vitamin A deficiency. This vitamin also keeps your immune system strong.
Now, you may want to know where to get your vitamin A from:
Perhaps you’d heard your grandmother say, eat carrots and you may never have to wear glasses – well, it might not be entirely true, but carrots definitely help in keeping your eyesight sharp! Make sure one or more of these vegetables/fruits are a part of your daily diet:
  • Spinach
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pumpkin
  • Mango
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Liver
  • Lettuce

Vitamin B for energy

Actually, vitamin B has a big family – B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid, niacin and pantothenic acid – phew, that’s some group! So, vitamin B is responsible for generating energy and setting it free when thebody needs it. This bunch of vitamins also helps in making red blood cells, and carrying oxygen throughout your body.
Vitamin B deficiency can lead to weakness, fatigue and in some cases you might even end up developing cardiovascular problems. You can get your B complex vitamins from:
  • Lean meat
  • Legumes
  • Peanuts
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Sesame seeds
  • Soy nuts
  • Salmon
  • Shrimp
  • Yogurt
  • Avocado

Vitamin C for resistance

Vitamin C helps you build resistance against common infections such as colds, flu, helps rebuild tissues, bones and blood vessels. Researches have proven that vitamin C helps strengthen your immune system, supports your connective tissues and even prevents nasal congestion. Get your dose of vitamin C from:
  • Guava
  • Papaya
  • Strawberry
  • Orange
  • Green chillies
  • Tomatoes
  • Cauliflower

Vitamin D for strong bones

Your body needs Vitamin D for absorbing calcium and phosphate, which in turn is necessary for the growth and development of bones. Lack of vitamin D in the body can make your bones soft and brittle and may cause osteoporosis. In addition, insufficient vitamin D in the body can lead to chronic conditions like arthritis, diabetes, blood pressure and heart disease.
Vitamin D deficiency can cause rickets in children, a disease which causes softening of bones leading to fractures or deformity.
In order to avoid this, make sure you diet comprises of the following foods:
  • Cod liver oil
  • Salmon
  • Fortified dairy products
  • Egg
  • Mushroom
  • Cereal
  • Swiss cheese
  • Shrimp
  • Oysters
You can also get your vitamin D by basking in the sunlight for a few minutes every day!

Vitamin E for youthful skin

This one helps protect your cells and tissues from damage. The health benefits of Vitamin E come from its antioxidant properties. It promotes heart health, respiratory health and is good for your brain.
In addition, vitamin E is beneficial for skin and hair care. It is packed with antioxidants and therefore promotes blood circulation to the scalp. Vitamin E oil is known to speed up cell regeneration and is used to treat scars, acne and wrinkles. This in turn creates an anti-aging effect, making your skin look younger. Foods rich with vitamin E include:
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Pine nuts
  • Chili power
  • Peanuts
  • Almonds
  • Cooked spinach
  • Cooked taro root
  • Papaya
  • Kiwi
  • Olive oil
  • Wheat
  • Turnip greens
  • Dried apricots

Vitamin K for blood clotting

Remember, as a kid, how surprised you were when you got a cut and your blood acted like glue, stuck together at the surface of the cut to stop the bleeding? That’s vitamin K at work! It plays a vital role in blood clotting. It is also important for building of strong bones and preventing heart diseases.
Vitamin K helps prevent post-menopausal bone loss and calcification of arteries. Recent studies show that vitamin K may possibly provide protection against liver and prostate cancer.
Here’s where you can get your vitamin K from:
  • Herbs
  • Spinach
  • Green beans
  • Lettuce
  • Cabbage
  • Cucumber

Plum Pinay adventures

I so love these twins.

Every body is beautiful—no exceptions

Two plus-size bloggers reveal the importance of self-love, no matter what size or shape you are.

Stacy and Danah Gutierrez, are the ladies behind one of the most popular blogs in the country. The identical twins, who champion body love and women empowerment, have become stars in their own right, with features and interviews in magazines, newspapers and on TV.
With how self-assured they come across, it’s hard to tell that these two beautiful and confident women once struggled with their looks.
Growing up with insecurities
In high school, both were teased a lot for being “tall and big-boned.” They were called “twin towers” and “white chicks.” It got the better of Stacy, who’s older than Danah by seven minutes, and made her struggle with her body image. She became more self-conscious because Danah, who was thinner, was attracting all her crushes.
Stacy thought, “We’re twins. How come they don’t like me? So I felt really insecure. I thought no one would like me if was big. So I decided I had to go on a diet.”
‘Vicious cycle’
She started by eating crackers. When that didn’t work, she stopped eating altogether. She was able to do it for three days straight, only allowing herself to drink water. But when she felt she was going to pass out, she binged. Then, feeling bad and disgusted afterwards, she would purge. It became a vicious cycle that happened at least six times a day for eight months.
Stacy’s nails began to turn black and her teeth yellow. Her hair started to fall while her grades took a nosedive. She eventually found out she was suffering from a combination of two eating disorders, anorexia-bulimia, and she had to be hospitalized.
‘Fat acceptance and activism’
Stacy’s road to recovery wasn’t easy. She had to undergo therapy and she relapsed many times, but a turning point came in November 2009 when she and Danah were in college. They were browsing the internet when they chanced upon the blog of a girl in Australia named Frances who proudly describes herself as someone who “preaches fat acceptance” and “practices fat activism.” Frances’ bold posts immediately struck a chord in both Stacy and Danah. “She has principles she lives by that really surprised us. It made us realize that love for yourself comes from within,” says Stacy.
The two then decided to put up their own website, The Plump Pinay. It embraced acceptance and love for one’s own body shape and size, at a time when it was almost unheard of in the Philippines.
Soon, their website gained a steady following, attracting thousands of young girls and even new moms who were struggling to lose their post-baby weight.
Continuing struggles
But for the most part of 2012, Stacy and Danah rarely posted on their blog, largely because Danah sank into a depression. It was caused mainly by a hormonal disorder called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The increased testosterone (male hormone) brought about many changes in her body, including severe acne, excessive growth of unwanted hair and a 40-pound weight gain.
Danah and a friend would later joke around, calling the disorder the “pampapanget syndrome,” (syndrome that makes one unattractive) but at the time, it was no laughing matter for Danah. With no work to keep her busy, she spent her days at home, sulking and crying. In a recent blog post, Danah openly talked about hitting her all-time low. “I made poor life choices, devalued my worth, hurt a lot of people close to me and lost a lot of good friends... It was one of the most painful things that happened to me.”
She reveals, it even caused her to feel resentment towards her own sister. “At the back of my mind, I also thought, I have a twin. Why doesn’t she have it? But then I also thought, I will never have the same body as she does, even if we’re twins. We’re still very different. So I had to accept that.”
Eventually, Danah decided to pursue healing and found a group of family and friends who supported her recovery.

Their bold comeback
Now, the twins resurrected their blog and they marked their comeback with a daring boudoir shoot that let the world know they’re back, stronger and more fearless than ever.
The self-proclaimed body image warriors are also setting their sights on expanding their line of swimwear into a full range of apparel. They also want to create a magazine and a modeling/talent agency for plus-size women.
Danah says, “You should never, ever make your weight or how you look limit you from living your life. For the longest time, I’ve wanted to dance but I couldn’t when I was insecure about my weight.May dancer bang mataba? (Is there a dancer who’s fat?) But I know I can dance so I did pole dancing. And then during the recital, they put me in front! That’s when I realized you can really do what you want no matter what your size is.”
Stacy adds, “if you’re really happy with what you’re doing, you’re going to shine. People will look past the body shape. If you’re really kind-hearted, you’re happy and you’re confident, people will see that.”
In this case, people are seeing double. For Stacy and Danah, it’s the best part of this journey of self-love and empowerment: sharing it with a partner and twin sister.

10 WORST "HEALTH" FOODS

I saw some comments under this video which really irk me. Like this one below. Hey, why are you mad? Who cares about your health, anyway? I don’t give a fucking damn about you whoever you are. Are you too ignorant to try and watch the video with a sensible mind? Do your own research on those artificial sweeteners and stop whining!  Have you heard of Stevia? You can pull your own weight and plant stevia and use it as sweetener to your coffee or beverages! Or if you want to die you fat ass, just die. Stop whining! You should be thankful for videos like this that give you education to your dumb ignoramus mind. You're diabetic, you say? So what do you plan to do with your own body? Go and have more of those artificial sweeteners!!! So you can die soon.

"This is seriously depressing me. Okay, so not just you but everyone is saying that "Splenda is bad and sugar would actually be more healthier than that !@#$" But, not only do I not want to eat sugar cuz the health negatives, I can /not/ eat it because I'm Diabetic.. so what the heck am I supposed to use if I can't use artificial sweetners? And I mean in like my coffee or in baking (yes in moderation), so please don't say the raw sweetness of fruits, honey, ect."

Taking care of our environment is taking care of ourselves

For decades there have been ongoing talks about global warming. Just last week I have read an article about North Pole now becoming North Lake. Because ice are melting literally turning most of the place into a poignant looking lake.

What have we done so far? Around the world, have people been actually concerned about what to do, more than be concerned about what will happen to them? Too many species have gone extinct ever since Mother Nature has started getting ill. And most of the things I hear so far is just worry, worry, worry.

Me and my friends a few months back have started to do something about it in our own little way. (shouldn't we all?) At first we were just planning a sort of a tour, an outdoor adventure. And then I thought, what is it about the outdoors that we would like to explore. Mother Nature. And is it enough that we enjoy her? Isn't it more meaningful and purposeful if we enjoy her and at the same time take care of her? So we decided to make our trip into an adventure and tree planting tour. We toured some part of Negros and along the way, we planted Mahogany seeds. The trip has revealed so many things to me. It was sort of appalling to see people living in the hinterlands, with dry and arid atmosphere from lack of trees and greeneries. You see people looking outside their windows with their black stares that almost scared me. What were they thinking? What were they busy about sitting waiting for nothing? There were vast empty areas around them. If I was the one living in those areas, I could change those sorry looking lands into a paradise, by just using my bare hands. There is enough about the emptiness that surrounds them that broke my heart to pieces.

Living in the city, I make use of some pots and plant some vegetables in them. Any hint of life sprouting from my tiny bit of "land" brings me so much joy and hope. Yes, there is hope in a handful of soil. Why can't there be hope in those vast mountains that we have passed by?

Why do people keep talking about poverty, hunger, hopelessness anyway?

The wonders of Calamansi

I heard from someone sharing about the wonders of Calamansi, especially it losing weight powers. I am still not too sure if I can manage to do it, especially when it requires squeezing its juices out and drinking without water or any sugar to at least sweeten it.

But many years ago I have this talk with my herbalist doctor and he told me drinking a glass of Calamansi juice 30 minutes before breakfast has a lot of benefits for our body. And that is what I have been doing the past weeks. The results are amazing. You have energy for the entire day, sometimes if you wake up with a headache, this amazing regimen will quickly shoo the headache away.

This video below is about how to use Calamansi for your beauty regimen. And yes, I have tried calamansi on my face, it erases blemishes and wrinkles in the long run. You can also try it on your problem areas like armpits etc *wink*

THIS ARTICLE IS ALSO HELPFUL:

What are the tricks to make work to the slimmer you? First, start the day by drinking 8 ounce of hot water with Calamansi. Squeeze a half of the Calamansi into the hot water, put 1 teaspoon of Calamansi zest and zip it slowly. Calamansi and hot water speeds the elimination of toxins that stores fat. Second is to alternate hot water and cold water throughout the day. The hot water will flush the toxins away from your intestines while the cold water keeps the calorie to burn high. You can drink hot water with Calamansi and then drink a glass of cold water, repeat this twice at non-meal times. The third step is to drink lukewarm water before meals and snacks, Drink them 15 minutes before you eat because it shuts down your craving to food therefore allowing you to only eat a few calories.

This is a modified version of the Master Cleanse Diet, where you’re supposed to replace each meal with a glass of fresh lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper mixed in 80z of water.
The citric acid in the lemon/calamansi is supposed to help curb your appetite. So you might lose weight while you’re on the diet, but once you go back to eating regular food you’ll regain the lost weight in a flash. (source: http://angelzero01.wordpress.com/2012/01/19/calamansi-for-weight-loss/)

Can you really lose weight with green tea?

My friend from Japan has shared with me her secret to keeping her weight and staying healthy. She said she is having at least one liter of green tea every day. I tried it. Right away. And I started having stomach problems. I would have stomach acid more frequently. I know each individual is unique and what can work for you might not work for me. So I just decided to stop with green tea. And my stomach upsets have since stopped. I found this video on youtube and I got curious once again.

Nature has it all

Surely there is so much around us that we can find which our bodies will benefit from. If we make a list of all the good things in nature that serves as antioxidant, we will have a very very long list and it will amaze you. I must say that we from tropical countries are more blessed in that area. Because we practically have everything we need to live a healthy lifestyle.

              1. The Health Benefits of Grapefruit
             2. A juice recipe that tastes delicious and is loaded with phytonutrients
             3. A couple of other ways to prepare
So here are the three tools that we will look closely with to attain the best that we can reap from grapefruit.

Tool # 1 What are the health benefits?

Grapefruit Juice Ranked among Those Highest in Antioxidant Activity

grapefruit-juice-benefits
Phytonutrients in grapefruit called limonoids inhibit tumor formation by promoting the formation of glutathione-S-transferase, a detoxifying enzyme. This enzyme sparks a reaction in the liver that helps to make toxic compounds morewater soluble for excretion from the body.
Grapefruit contains pectin, a form of soluble fiber that has been shown in animal studies to slow down the progression of atherosclerosis. In one study, animals fed a high-cholesterol diet plus grapefruit pectin had 24% narrowing of their arteries, while animals fed the high-cholesterol diet without grapefruit pectin had 45% narrowing.
Both blond and red grapefruit can reduce blood levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol, and red grapefruit lowers triglycerides as well, shows a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
Want to reduce your risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones? Drink grapefruit juice. A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that when women drank 1/2 to 1 liter of grapefruit, apple or orange juice daily, their urinary pH value and citric acid excretion increased, significantly dropping their risk of forming calcium oxalate stones.
Naringenin, a flavonoid concentrated in grapefruit, helps repair damaged DNA in human prostate cancer cells (cell line LNCaP), reports a lab study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.

Tool # 2 A juice recipe that tastes delicious and is loaded with phytonutrients

Recipe:
In making the recipe for grapefruit, don't leave the skin of the fruit on. In order for us to extract the most nutrient, enzymes and amino acids, leave the white lining of the fruit because that is some of the healthist things.
Grapefruit and Mint. Put them in the power juicer. And there you have your awesome tasting juice combination.
You can also freeze them and turn them into pop-cycles.
It's a perfect Gall-Bladder Detox Recipe.

Tool # 3 Other Ways to Prepare

  • Grapefruit sections add a tangy spark to green salads.
  • Instead of your morning glass of OJ, have a glass of grapefruit juice.
  • Combine diced grapefruit with cilantro and chili peppers to make a unique salsa. (Have Crystal make this.)
  • To enjoy a salad with a tropical flair, combine chopped grapefruit pieces, cooked shrimp and avocados and serve on a bed of romaine lettuce. (Show the Fitlife team enjoying this)

Green Coffee

Coffee is one of the world's most popular stimulants and most widely consumed beverages. Only water and tea have higher overall consumption than coffee. Green coffee is simply coffee made from unroasted beans or raw coffee. According to Applied Foods.com, green coffee is extremely rich in chlorogenic acid.

Chlorogenic acid is a powerful antioxidant that will rid your body of free radicals and promote good health. Consumption of green coffee and the associated chlorogenic acid offers some positive health benefits. Interested in losing weight? Learn more about LIVESTRONG.COM's nutrition and fitness program!

HYPERTENSION
Consumption of green coffee can have a beneficial effect on hypertension. A study conducted by Kao Corporation in Tokyo, Japan, revealed positive effects on mild hypertensive cases in rats and humans. The research showed significantly decreased blood pressure in both humans and rats and that amount of blood pressure response was directly proportional to the dose of green coffee. The higher the dose of green coffee, the greater the effect on blood pressure. The study also revealed the positive changes were obtained without the risk of side effects that can be observed with prescription medication.

WEIGHT LOSS
Green coffee consumption has been proved to be effective for weight loss. A study by Oryza Oil & Fat Chemical Co., Ltd. in Japan revealed positive effects of green tea consumption and body weight in mice. The research revealed the combination of caffeine and chlorogenic acid in green coffee promoted reduced fat accumulation and inhibited fat absorption, thus making the consumption of green coffee an effective weight loss product.

DIABETES
Research has shown that the consumption of green coffee can also be beneficial for diabetes. A study at Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt, and published in the "Journal of American Science" revealed the consumption of green tea decreased blood glucose levels and insulin levels in diabetic rats. The research concluded that the cholorogenic acid content of all coffee, not just green coffee, is responsible for the antagonistic effect on glucose transport in your body.

Oh to be white and pretty

SKIN WHITENERS DAMAGE PEOPLE AND NATIONAL DIGNITY
By Fr. Shay Cullen, Mssc

Imagine the scene in a charity clinic where a teenager was brought threatening suicide. Barbara, 17 years old, was crying out in her anguish, beating her clenched fists on the table and screaming, "I can't live with a face like this, I am better off dead, dead". She wailed and wept and the nurses could see the cause of her anger and frustration, uneven dark and white blotches had disfigured her face, the result of dangerous toxic skin whitening creams. She wanted to look like a movie star but it all went wrong.

Barbara was persuaded to calm down and get counseling and help to reverse the condition. We have reason to fear and ban the deadly disease-causing products that disfigure young people, who are feeling insecure and inferior because of a darker complexion. With therapy and counseling, Barbara overcame her trauma and was later empowered enough to be an advocate for racial equality. Those products are truly racist for wrongly promoting the white skinned Caucasian as a superior being and by implying everyone else is a lesser human being.

Whatever skin cream you use, be sure that it is non-toxic and not a skin whitener or bleaching agent. The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has banned 16 dangerous skin whitening products containing toxic cancer-causing substances. They are suspected of containing high levels of heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic.  “Continuous use of these products may cause adverse or allergic reactions that can result to severe or irreversible skin problem”, FDA said last week.

Even worse can happen when the dangerous chemicals are absorbed into the bloodstream and can cause skin cancer, liver, and kidney damage or poisoning. Hydroquinone, a toxic substance is found in many of the skin whitening and bleaching products; they are very dangerous and can disfigure a person's face over time. (Seehttp://www.preda.org/mailings/mail.cgi/r/preda/732551950078/annegubuan/yahoo.com/and Youtube)

Young people need to be given affirmation and positive re-enforcement and assurances that they are good, valuable, and loved persons irrespective of race, creed, or skin colour. They need a positive self-image based on good character, spiritual values and not based on outward physical appearance and how one looks. They need to accept themselves as they are, not how cosmetic surgical procedures or skin whitening will make them look. It’s what you are as a person, not how you physically look that matters.

They need help to understand that “true face” is based on integrity and comes from their belief in their own inner goodness, their abilities to help others, being unselfish and authentic and having awareness and respect for human rights and dignity.

Having "face” is an important Asian value; it is the respectful self-image, the dignity of a nation, family and the individual. It is supposedly based on a reputation for goodness, honor, and being true to your word. To lose "face" is to be humiliated, have one’s name besmirched and thus to lose the respect of others or be dishonored or diminished in some way. Everybody needs and deserves the respect and dignity due to every person.

The lack of integrity, cheating and lying, and hypocrisy are the common practice in society and  among the greatest cheats are those who make false claims and peddle false images of health and beauty. The advertising, fashion, makers of cosmetic products such as skin whiteners and some medical practitioners do the greatest damage. Instead of giving the "face" that comes from spiritual values, they have created a false image of so called “beauty” that is racist and discriminates against all who do not fit that image. We are made in the image and likeness of God, not that concocted by a beautician.

Many years ago, the "beauty" industry chose to promote a particular image or "most desirable face" that others would be urged to imitate. Their principle beauty model of the ideal movie star celebrity image is one that is slim, white-skinned and looks Caucasian. They seemingly set out to develop and exploit a colonial mentality.  In the world of fashion, there are exceptions. Cosmetic surgeons and skin whitening makers are raking in billions of dollars around the world from straightening noses, doing face lifts, eye alterations, bleaching skin white and giving other cosmetic enchantment procedures.

Skin whitening products are considered "racist", they, by their very existence, promote the false, insulting and racist belief that darker skin colour is indicative of an inferior person or lower race or connotes ugly and not attractive. They promote the attitude that "white is right". It’s a business that destroys the honor of the people and a loss of true "face", the one that means self respect and personal honor as a people. These products must be roundly denounced and people of all nations must boycott and shun them.  shaycullen@preda.org,www.preda.org. Postal: St. Columbans, Navan, Ireland.
